The Office of Student Affairs (OSA) is dedicated to fostering a healthy campus culture based on human rights education and inclusivity in alignment with educational principles and civic responsibilities. Our endeavors are in line with Taiwan’s adoption of five out of the UN’s nine core human rights treaties in its legislative framework, including the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), the International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights (ICESCR), the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), and Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). Meanwhile, the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD), the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families (ICMW), the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance (ICPPED), and the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CAT) are also respected by the NTNU community.

The OSA is resolute in its duty to protect the rights of everyone within the civil society, ensuring no action contravenes these fundamental principles. However, the journey towards promoting human rights within the school and instilling their associated values may involve the occurrence of events or entail the construction of a supportive educational environment. Creating a welcoming campus that assures rights protection and support necessitates in-depth multilateral conservations and interactions. Through these efforts, we aim to nurture an environment that kindly recognizes and respectfully upholds human rights.

In our quest to establish a campus atmosphere that embodies equality and non-discrimination, the OSA is committed to maintaining an open student feedback platform, promoting various forms of human rights education initiatives, and encouraging all faculty and students to recognize the interests of diverse groups and champion the protection of human rights at significant school events. Our ultimate objective is to cultivate a campus culture that values and protects the rights of every individual.

Due to a recent serious campus safety incident in southern Taiwan, we urge all students and faculty members to stay alert and take the following safety precautions. Please also remind your peers and look out for one another:

Avoid arriving at school too early or leaving too late alone. Always try to travel in groups. Do not walk through dark alleys, deserted areas, or any potentially dangerous areas.

Follow the school’s daily schedule and avoid staying alone in classrooms during break times. Do not go to the restroom alone, and avoid secluded corners of the campus to ensure your safety.

If you encounter strangers or suspicious individuals on campus, report it immediately to the Student Adviser Office at (02)7749-3123.

If a stranger asks for directions, you may kindly provide verbal instructions but do not personally guide them. Always stay alert and never hand over money or leave campus with someone you don’t know.

If you notice someone following you off-campus, quickly head toward a well-populated area or the nearest security station. Call for help loudly to attract attention and seek assistance.

Your safety is our top priority. Stay cautious, look out for each other, and don’t hesitate to report anything unusual.
