History and Development
The Office of Student Affairs (OSA), formerly known as the Student Disciplinary Office, was renamed in 1994 following the promulgation of the University Act. The OSA is dedicated to supporting students’ daily life, extracurricular activities, housing, and physical and mental well-being. On October 25, 2006, during the 96th University Council Meeting, Article 9, Paragraph 2 of the University Charter was amended to establish the following divisions under the OSA: Student Services, Housing Guidance, Extracurricular Activities, Student Affairs-Gongguan Campus, and Student Affairs-Linkou Campus. Additionally, Health Center, Student Counseling Center, and Military Instructor Office were incorporated into the OSA to comprehensively manage various aspects of student affairs.
In January 2011, the Preparatory Office for Holistic Education Center was established to promote service-learning curriculum and develop holistic education programs. In August 2014, the Student Adviser Office was established to strengthen student guidance support and to ensure the implementation of tertiary prevention, which includes developmental guidance, intervention counseling, and remedial counseling. On November 18, 2015, during the 115th University Council Meeting, the merger of the Military Instructor Office and the Student Adviser Office was approved. Meanwhile, the Holistic Education Center was officially incorporated into the OSA. In October 2015, the Indigenous Students Resource Center was established under the Student Adviser Office to provide academic and life support for indigenous students and to promote indigenous culture and education.
On August 1, 2016, to enhance the effectiveness of dormitory management, the Housing Guidance was reorganized as the Student Dormitory Management Center and transferred to the Office of General Affairs. This organizational adjustment was approved during the 118th University Council Meeting on May 24, 2017. At the same time, the Community Counseling Center was established under the OSA to extend professional psychological services to the broader community and promote social well-being.
Due to institutional restructuring, on May 22, 2019, the 122nd University Council Meeting approved the transfer of the Career Counseling Center (formerly under the Office of Teacher Education) to the OSA, effective August 1, 2019. The center was subsequently renamed the Career Center to continue providing career guidance for students.
On January 1, 2024, to optimize student housing services through resource integration, the Student Dormitory Management Center was transferred back from the Office of General Affairs to the OSA. During the 132nd University Council Meeting on May 22, 2024, the center was renamed the Student Housing.
