Establishment History of the NTNU Student Grievances Committee
The Student Grievances Committee aims to ensure students’ rights to learning, living and education as well as protect the rights of students by providing access to appeals and processing appeal cases. In accordance with Clause 4, Article 33 under the University Act and Clauses 4, Article 14 and Article 55 under the NTNU Organization Charter, the NTNU Student Grievances Committee Organizational Guidelines were enacted in 1994. The Student Grievances Committee was officially established and implemented during the 228th Administrative Council Meeting on September 7, 1994. Since then, amendments to certain provisions have been approved in the 67th, 68th, 70th, 84th, 86th, 95th, 102nd, 107th, 126th, 128th, 129th University Council Meetings and subsequently reported to the Ministry of Education for acknowledgement.
Student Appeal Items and Procedures
Student Appeal Items: Students may appeal against disciplinary actions, university measures or decisions they deem as illegitimate or inappropriate which have impeded their rights to learning, life or education. The student union and other self-governing student bodies may also file appeals against the University’s disciplinary actions or other resolutions with the Student Grievances Committee.
Student Appeal Procedures: Students must complete a complaint form, stating the name, department/institute year of study and student ID number. The appeal should include a written complaint description of the specific facts along with any supporting documents and be submitted to the Student Grievances Committee.
Other Channels for Student Opinion Exchange and Communication
In addition to the Student Grievances Committee, various communication and appeal channels have been established to help students understand the administrative operations and decision-making processes of the university, as well as to enhance interaction between faculty members and students.
- Student representatives attend major university meetings: including the University Council, Administrative Council, Academic Affairs Committee, Student Affairs Committee, Student Rewards and Disciplinary Committee, College Affairs Meetings, Department/Graduate Institute Affairs Meetings and Dietary Health Coordination Committee.
- Student Club Leaders’ Regular Meeting: All student club leaders are welcome to attend. Relevant faculty members and staff will also be present to engage in face-to-face communication with students and address any related issues.
- Advising Activities: Students and advisers engage in two-way communication. A report form detailing the implementation of the advising activity is completed and submitted to the Office of Student Affairs, which compiles the reports and forwards them to the relevant units for follow-up actions.
- Individual Student Feedback: Students may express their opinions to the responsible staff or office directors, either in writing or verbally.
